 Olive oil as an aphrodisiac
Folklore medicine used olive oil an aphrodisiac. On Crete , olive oil which
had not been cooked was deemed to be a much more effective aphrodisiac. It
was with this belief that many newly weds had to eat bread soaked in the first
olive oil of the year. There is a saying in Greece that highlights the aphrodisiac
characteristics of olive oil and states that butter is a substance which weakens
sexual desire:
“ Eat butter and sleep tight Take olive oil and play all night ” .
